Lesley began writing as a child while growing up in London and Miami. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of London. When she isn’t writing, Lesley works as a strategic planning consultant for schools and nonprofits. As a mother of two who faced challenges in her own childhood, she believes every child deserves love, support, and encouragement to feel brave and confident in themselves.
Tara is a licensed psychotherapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Castleton University and her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University. Tara specializes in individual and family counseling, with a focus on family preservation and trauma-related stress disorders. She is a nationally certified therapist in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and a Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida.
Dr. Kane is a lifelong educator and learner. Her academic accomplishments include a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Penn State University, a master's degree in Education and Curriculum from Castleton State University, and a doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University. She teaches at both Nova Southeastern University and Broward College. Over her 31-year career, Dr. Kane has authored, co-authored, and edited several professional articles and academic books.
Florence is a bright orange magical bag! She lives in a grocery store that she loves, but one day Florence
decides to leave and see what it is like to live with a family. When the family goes strawberry picking
Florence suddenly goes flying into the air, and the family work together to get her back. Florence
realizes she loves her family and that the world is full of many kinds of adventures.
Florence discovers that she can hear children’s thoughts while living with brother and sister, Elliott and
Elyse! When the children have an upsetting argument, Florence discovers she has another magical
power! She can send children messages by writing on the front of herself! Florence conveys understanding of how arguments feel while also suggesting how to get back to normal . Florence’s message helps, and she decides to always use her powers to comfort and support children.
Florence finds herself at school with Maggie and her friend Haruto. Florence learns that they both feel
unsure of themselves because they feel very different from the other children. They believe they cannot
make friends. Florence sends them a magical message to encourage them to believe in themselves,
and tells them all that matters is who they are on the inside. Maggie and Haruto decide to be brave and discover they are not as different as they thought.
When Florence learns Ella is being bullied at school and is afraid to tell anyone, Florence is dismayed and
concerned. After hearing Ella’s worried thoughts that the horrible things Bo and Frida say to her may be true, Florence uses her magical powers to write Ella a message. She tells Ella their words are untrue, that
this is NOT her fault, and suggests some strategies. Ella feels stronger and decides to tell her mommy
what is happening.
During Sammy’s sleepover with his friend Michael, Florence learns Sammy feels anxious because his dad has left. When Sammy confides in Michael, Michael tells Sammy a secret – his dad also left his family.
They fear it is their fault. Florence writes a message that validates their feelings, explains it is NOT their
fault, and expresses how glad she is they are friends. The boys feel comforted and decide it would be
good to talk to an adult they trust.
While visiting Camille and Bryan’s apartment, Florence discovers that the children cannot rely on their
parents to look after them. After the children go to their grandparents’ home, Camille feels worried. Did
she and Bryan do something wrong? Is it okay if they feel safer being with their grandparents? Florence
sends the children a reassuring and empathetic message to comfort them. She tells them this situation
is NOT their fault and encourages them to talk to their grandparents.
